Project SEEN — Legal
Last updated: July 14th, 2026
Who runs this project
Project SEEN is ran solely and pseudonymously by the artist. Both they and the server are in the east United States. This is an individual art project, not a company. No money is made from this operation.
What data is collected
The app collects condensed file packets from your device's media library. A condensed file consists of: a 300px square thumbnail (images), five random-frame thumbnails (video), or metadata only (audio), plus a limited set of file metadata as described on the Technical page. Full media files may be collected afterward. Personally identifying metadata is left behind when any packet leaves your device. Your device is assigned an anonymous ID for the purpose of managing participation. This ID is not linked to your name, account, or any other identifying information.
How data is used
Condensed files are used solely for the purposes of this art project: they are viewed by the artist and then deleted. They are not sold, shared, processed by third-party services, or used for any commercial purpose. The server is self-ran by the artist and hosted via Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Retention
All files are deleted within 30 days of receipt, typically much sooner. Files the artist chooses to archive are retained longer: participants are notified when this occurs and retain the right to delete them within the app.
Third parties
No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used on this website or in the app. The only third party is Oracle Cloud Interface hosting the server. You should find their policy however I will summarize what I see pertains to participant's data: Oracle may process or have limited data only as necessary to provide and secure the hosting service, respond to support requests, investigate abuse, or comply with applicable law. We do not otherwise share user data with Oracle.
Your rights
You may delete files you send to the server at any time from within the app. You may stop transmitting files automatically from within the app, or by uninstalling it. You may withdraw from the project at any time by submitting a withdrawal request. Pending files will be purged within 24 hours of confirmation. [Depending on your jurisdiction, participants may have additional rights, e.g. GDPR right of access or erasure. If you're in the EU or serving EU participants, this section needs legal review.]
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the date above will be updated and active participants will be notified through the app. Minor clarifications may be made without notice.
